Our Work / Transparency

Transparency

At Foster Trees, LLC, we are committed to using business as a force for good. We’ve committed to these principles by becoming incorporated as a Benefit Corporation, tying the purpose of our business to creating a public benefit. We’re currently pursuing certification through a third-party standard called B-Lab to become a Certified B-Corp.

Benefit Corporations are different from traditional companies because they commit the purpose of the company to broader social and environmental goals, and then are held accountable to their impact through public reporting or certification tools.

What makes us "ecological" and "sustainable?"

We utilize a number of practices that make us different.  First, we recommend tree care solutions that are founded in the best tree science available, and are rooted in understanding trees as a broader part of an ecological community (yes, even in cities!).  Our staff regularly attend workshops, conferences, and other education sessions to make sure that we're continually learning about trees and best practices in tree care.

From there, we're working every day to reduce the impact our operations have on the environment.  We use biodegradeable bar oil, and are working to switch tools to electric options when possible.  We prefer to keep logs and wood chips out of the landfill, and give them to neighbors for use in landscapes as frequently as we can.  In our shop, we recycle numerous waste streams, have highly efficient appliances, and are working each day to come up with ways to reduce our impact.

Our B-Corp reporting tools will have more detail on our sustainability journey, so follow along for more updates. And feel free to reach out if you have questions about our practices!

Our Work

At Foster Trees, we take on projects big and small. We can prune your camellia or remove a 100+ foot tall Douglas fir in your backyard. These photos show some projects that make us feel proud!

Transparency in our operations is a critical piece of ensuring the work we do does good.

Follow along on Instagram (@fostertreespdx) as we share more about our certification journey. Our annual reporting links will be available on this page in the future (first annual report to come at the end of 2024).
